Responsibilities

It's essential to review your lease agreement, as it may outline specific responsibilities and expectations.

 

As a tenant, your responsibilities for maintaining a rental home typically includes, but not limited to:

Safe & Sanitary Home

  • Keep the home clean and free from excessive clutter.

  • Regularly dispose of garbage and recycling properly.

Minor Repairs & General Care

  • Handle minor repairs like replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, or changing air filters.

  • Inform the landlord about more significant issues promptly.

  • Keep the property in good condition, avoiding damage to walls, floors, and fixtures.

  • Follow guidelines for pet care if pets are allowed.

Prevent Damage, Mold, & Mildew

  • Use appliances and fixtures as intended to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.

  • Take precautions to prevent damage (e.g., using a cutting board, avoiding excessive moisture in bathrooms).

  • Ensure proper ventilation to prevent mold and mildew growth.

  • Clean mold promptly if it appears and notify the landlord if it persists.

Report Issues

  • Report maintenance issues or damages to the landlord or property manager as soon as they arise.

  • Notify the landlord of any pests or infestations immediately.

Lawn & Garden Maintenance

  • Maintain the lawn, garden, and outdoor spaces, unless otherwise stated in the lease agreement.

  • Water plants, mow the lawn, and remove weeds if required.

Utilities

  • Pay for and manage utilities unless they are included in the rent.

  • Notify the landlord if utility systems (e.g., plumbing, heating) are malfunctioning.

Respect Neighbors

  • Avoid causing disturbances to neighbors with excessive noise or behavior.

  • Follow community rules and guidelines.

End of Tenancy

  • Leave the property in a clean and tidy condition.

  • Remove personal belongings and dispose of any trash.

  • Repair any damages caused during the tenancy that go beyond normal wear and tear.
